Calgary Roughnecks News Release

Calgary, AB - Derrick the Driller, long time mascot of the Calgary Roughnecks has retired from the team to pursue drilling opportunities in Fort McMurray, AB, where oil and gas activity has been on a steady increase. The team would like to thank Derrick for his past services and wish him well in his new pursuits.

The Roughnecks officially introduced the new Honey Badger mascot at a media gathering today. The honey badger known as the most fearless animal on earth represents the character and will of a Roughnecks player on the floor and the heart of a Roughnecks player off the floor with a fun-loving, friendly demeanor for fans young and old.

Yet to be named, Roughnecks fans will be encouraged to name the new team mascot through an online contest at www.calgaryroughnecks.com. The contest will be launched Monday, January 30. All fans will have the opportunity to participate in the naming contest, and children 12 years old and under who submit a colouring sheet with a name suggestion will receive a ticket voucher to a future Roughnecks game.

The Roughnecks Honey Badger mascot will make numerous appearances throughout the Calgary community including visits to the Alberta Children's Hospital, elementary schools and corporate functions to name a few.
