Roughnecks Announce Full Coaching Staff Ahead of 2024 UFL Season

HOUSTON, TX - Today, the Houston Roughnecks announced its full coaching staff for the 2024 UFL season, with Head Coach CJ Johnson at the helm.

"We've locked in a phenomenal coaching staff and I'm excited to officially welcome them to the Houston Roughnecks family, as we embark on a new era of spring football together," said Houston Roughnecks Head Coach CJ Johnson. "Each of them brings extensive skills and experience to their position, but they all share a great sense of pride and desire for creating opportunities for these players, and that's what it's all about. We can't wait to get to work and bring a ton of energy to H-Town and the passionate fans of Roughneck nation."

Johnson, who previously served as head coach of the USFL's Houston Gamblers in 2023, retained much of his coaching staff, including Eric Price as offensive coordinator/quarterbacks and Chris Wilson as defensive coordinator/linebackers.

Garret Chachere was named special teams/running backs coach, after previously serving as the Gamblers running backs/wide receivers/offensive quality coach in 2023. Kwahn Drake and Brett Maxie both return as well, serving as defensive line coach and defensive backs coach, respectively. Zach Shagi also returns and will serve as assistant secondary coach.

Newcomers include Bob Connelly, who was named offensive line coach and Jordan Higgins, who will serve as tight ends coach. Additionally, Lionel Vital will assume the role as general manager for the Roughnecks.

The Houston Roughnecks will kick off their 2024 season at 2 p.m. CT Sunday, March 31 at Rice Stadium vs. the Memphis Showboats.
