West Texas Roughnecks News Release

ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks have signed Offensive/Defensive Lineman Anthony Sapa for the 2008 season. Sapa was a member of the 2006 Championship squad in Odessa. Sapa (6'3" 350) played at Texas Southern before joining the Roughnecks in 2006. Anthony took a year away from football in 2007 to take care of family related issues. "Sapa is a guy that can help get you back to being a champion. He has plenty of experience in this league and is a great leader both on and off the field. I am excited to have him back in the mix of things." Stated Head Coach Chris Williams.

The Odessa Roughnecks have also signed arena football veteran defensive back Tony Lukins for the 2008 season. Lukins, 27, was a notable defensive back and kick returner at New Mexico State University. The Chicago Bears signed Lukins following his senior season in 2002 with the Aggies. Following his release from Chicago, Lukins was signed by the Oakland Raiders and allocated to NFL Europe where he played for the Rhein Fire in 2003. After a productive '03 stint with the Fire in which Lukins started all 11 games including World Bowl XI, recorded 36 tackles, 2 interceptions and defended 14 passes, he was signed by the Seattle Seahawks. Seattle later released Lukins in September of 2004.

Lukins began his Arena Football League career after a short time in the Canadian Football League with the Toronto Argonauts. He spent 2005 and 2006 with the Chicago Rush of the AFL and also spent parts of 2007 with the Las Vegas Gladiators and the Arizona Rattlers. The El Paso native collected 72 tackles, one interception and a fumble recovery in his Arena Football Career. Lukins also participated as a receiver during his tenure in Las Vegas.

"He has started in over 20 games in Arena 1 and that experience is going to be very important for us." stated Head Coach Chris Williams. "Tony is a true professional football player. He has played in every top level of pro football and has been productive in all of them. He will add the needed indoor experience to the team as a very seasoned defensive back." said Williams. "He has outstanding athletic ability and has high end speed running a 4.34/40. Although he has played in a lot of places he is still young and can definitely return to the next level of pro ball after putting together a great 2008 season here with the Roughnecks." says Williams.

Season tickets and corporate partnerships continue to move quickly so interested parties should contact the team at (432) 332- PASS (7277) or visit www.RoughnecksIFL.com for further information.
