ODESSA, TX. : The Odessa Roughnecks announced on Thursday, October 29, 2009 that the organization has acquired defensive linemen, Jon Williams, for the 2010 season. Williams (6'2", 260 lbs.) recently spent the 2009 season with the Arkansas Twisters of the AF2. In nine games played, Williams recorded 23 total tackles including two tackles for loss, two sacks, one pass breakup and one quarterback hurry. Offensively, Williams registered six yards rushing and caught two passes for 17 yards during the 2009 regular season. Williams played a key role on a Twisters team that finished 11-5 during the regular season and clinched a berth in the '09 AF2 post-season.

"Jon is an exciting player and a great character on and off the field. He will help provide positive veteran leadership amongst a group of young guys in 2010. I didn't think we could afford to pass up a player with his athletic ability and leadership qualities. He can play three different positions at a high level and that will definitely help us this season." explained Odessa Roughnecks Head Coach, Chris Williams.

The Richmond, California native held a minor stint with the New York Dragons of the AFL during the 2008 season. Williams attended San Francisco City College where he was a part of back-to-back junior college national championship teams. Following his two years at San Francisco City College, Williams transferred to Texas College where he was part of a program that won the Red River Athletic Conference Championship during his senior season. Statistically combined with San Francisco City College and Texas College, Williams recorded 88 total tackles, 15 sacks, 19 tackles for loss and registered 50 rushing yards on nine carries in 35 career collegiate games.

The versatility that Williams offers will allow him to contribute at the defensive end and linebacker positions for the Roughnecks in 2010. Additionally, he will add more depth to the Roughnecks running game at the fullback position.
