West Texas Roughnecks News Release
ODESSA, TX. In conjunction with partner and flagship station KMCM 97 Gold FM, the Roughnecks announced today that NBC, Newswest 9 Sports Director Scott Shields will now be the team's Play-By-Play announcer for all radio broadcasts. The Roughnecks who have entered their second season with a win over the Beaumont Drillers earlier this month have also began their second season calling 97 Gold home for every game home and on the road.
The 30 year old Shields has been running the sports department at the Permian Basins NBC affiliate for over four years, a job that has made his face and voice very recognizable throughout the area. Shields came to West Texas from the sunshine state where he received a degree from the University of Florida and worked in the journalism and television broadcast fields. "With our effort to keep everything fresh and new for the 2005 season, why should the radio broadcast be any different?" said team president Tommy Benizio "Scott is passionate about our game, our team, and our community and I am certain that he will make listening to the games almost as lively as going to them."
Along side Scott Shields will remain football radio veteran Graham Pollard. Most recognizable for his work in high school football in the area, Graham called every down of Roughnecks action from the inaugural game through this months Beaumont win. He will serve as the team's Color Commentator. "We are very pleased to have what we believe is the best radio tandem in the NIFL representing our station all over the Basin and the world through the webcast." stated station owner and general manager Tommy Vascocu.
Both Scott and Graham can be hear just two days from now on 97 Gold FM as the Roughnecks travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the Capitols at 7:05 PM this Friday, March 25th. The Season Premier game in Odessa is one month from today as the Roughnecks host the Miami Morays on April 23rd. Limited season and group tickets are still available by calling (432) 332-PASS (7277).
