Rough Riders Lose Last Season Meeting with Pioneers
August 10, 2005 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Long Island Rough Riders News Release
Ludlow, MA; August 10, 2005 - In their fourth meeting of the 2005 season, the Long Island Rough Riders were defeated by the Western Mass Pioneers 2-0 Wednesday night.
The Pioneers, staying true to their pattern against Long Island, were the first to score. In the 19th minute, Neil Krause was assisted by Omar McFarlane to give the Pioneers the 1-0 edge. This goal would prove to be the only scoring the Pioneers would need for the win, but that would not stop them from scoring another later on.
Jose Sura, already required to sit out Saturday's match against the New Hampshire Phantoms due to an accumulation of yellow card points, was ejected in the 35th minute for a dangerous tackle on McFarlane, leaving the Rough Riders one man short for the remaining 55 minutes.
The Pioneers finishing score came courtesy of Jeff Deren, off a pass from Kevin McMenamin in the 90th minute to give Western Mass the 2-0 win, and a clean sweep of the season series.
The Rough Riders will play Saturday's game without the services of Sura, Wilmer Cabrera and Laurence Piturro. Cabrera is sitting out due to the accumulation of yellow card points, while Piturro will sit because of a red card earned in the 86th minute against the Pioneers.
The final game of the season for the Long Island Rough Riders will be on Saturday, August 13th at 7:30 PM against the New Hampshire Phantoms in Hampstead, NH. For more information, visit our web site at www.liroughriders.com.
