Wilmington Sharks News Release

The Wilmington Sharks (14-12) used a four-run explosion in the second inning to get past Wilson Tobs (10-17) by a score of 9-2 on Monday evening at Historic Fleming Stadium. Three runs came across on Nick Rotola's homerun off the scoreboard in left field. Monday night's blast was Rotola's first of the summer, and one of seventeen Sharks hits - their highest total of the summer.

Sharks designated hitter Jae Roberts was perfect at the dish, going 3-3, walking twice and was plucked once. Roberts singled in the fifth and seventh inning, and added a double in the ninth while scoring twice. Hayes Nelson also added three hits of his own.

Cody Tyler got the win for the Sharks. He allowed two runs over six innings, striking out three, walking two and surrendering five hits. Reed Scott, Alex Hamilton, and Evan Braband would each toss spotless innings of relief.

After pushing across one run in the bottom of the fifth, Wilson faced just a 4-2 deficit, but not for long. Singles by Alex Destino and Jae Roberts and a sacrifice fly by Matt Whatley would bring Destino across. Another insurance run scored when Brett Smith was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.

Holding a 6-2 advantage, the Sharks were still hungry. Alex Raburn reached base in the eighth and was driven home after Alex Destino snuck one inside the foul pole down the right field line. Monday's home run is Destino's second of the season to go along with his team leading 21 RBIs.

Another Sharks run was plated in the ninth. Inserted for Rotola, Sam Foy singled on the first pitch he saw. A wild pitch and a passed ball moved him up to third, and an infield single by Joe Bialkowski would bring Foy home.

Wilmington continues their road trip as they travel to Florence to face the RedWolves on Tuesday before heading to Fayetteville on Wednesday for a rendezvous with the SwampDogs. The Sharks return home Thursday to host Florence for Thirsty Thursday.

Thursday's game will have live music from Possum Creek before the game, as well as postgame fireworks. For tickets call 910-343-5621 or email tickets@wilmingtonsharks.com.
