Bloomington Extreme News Release
With the inaugural season set to kick off in less than two months, the Bloomington Extreme prove yet again they can attract serious football talent. Head Coach Ted Schmitz announces the signing of eight new players today, adding to an already impressive roster.
Kicker Peter Christofilakos joins the Extreme after an outstanding career at the University of Illinois. Christofilakos holds the U of I record with 69 consecutive extra points and 92% of his field goal attempts ranked him No.1 in the Big Ten.
Coach Schmitz commented on the addition of Christofilakos to the already potent offense "Peter is a clutch kicker, very reliable and poised under pressure. His accuracy is exceptional, he should fit in nicely"
The Extreme also add wide-out Sam D'Alie to the roster after two successful seasons with the Racine Raiders. Not only does D'Alie have the experience, he's accumulated a few awards along the way. Along with earning Offensive MVP honors with the Raiders, he was also named the Minor League Football News Offensive Player of the Year in 2005 with 14 touchdown receptions in a single season.
Coach Schmitz on D'Alie's abilities, "He's got a great amount of speed and can really get open. DB's are scared to press him because if they don't get enough of him it's a touchdown."
Joining D'Alie at wide receiver will be Normal native Ikechi Nnakwe. While he may have spent the majority of his athletic career playing basketball, Nnakwe is a physical specimen coming in at 6'4" 245 lbs. With his NFL-sized frame he should give UIF defenses something to worry about this upcoming season.
The Extreme continue to improve offensively as they sign three linemen today. Local Mike Daley brings experience to the position having already spent time in the AF2 arena league with the Peoria Pirates. Joining him on the line are Joseph Hermes at 6'3" 270 lbs and James Witte at 6'2" 310 lbs.
Patrolling the secondary will be new defensive backs Sam Yeargin and Mike Rhone. Yeargin joins the team after playing for the Redbirds at Illinois State University and Rhone comes in after stints with the Shreveport Battlewings and the Green Bay Blizzard.
The Bloomington Extreme, a member of the United Indoor Football League, will enter into its inaugural season on the road against the Peoria Pirates on March 25th. The Extreme's home opener at the brand new U.S. Cellular Coliseum will be on April 1st. Season tickets for the Extreme range from $70 to $200 depending on seat location.
