November 21, 2019 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Calgary Stampeders News Release
Calgary Stampeders video operations director Ross Folan is the inaugural winner of the Canadian Football League's Jane Mawby Tribute Award. The announcement was made on Thursday evening at Calgary's Scotiabank Saddledome as part of the Shaw CFL Awards ceremonies.
The award recognized a current longtime team or league employee who demonstrates consistent high performance and resilience while working tirelessly behind the scenes. The award honours the memory of Jane Mawby, who was a member of the Calgary Stampeders organization for 28 years before passing away in 2015.
"Thank you to Randy Ambrosie, John Hufnagel, the CFL and the Calgary Stampeder Football club for this recognition," said Folan. "I had the privilege of working alongside Jane for many years and considered her a close friend. This award is an excellent tribute to the selfless dedication she brought to each day.
"I am both humbled and grateful to accept this award and wish to share it with the many amazing people across the CFL who work tirelessly behind the scenes.
"I am thankful to Paige Ross for her support and allowing me to be passionate about my job, and I am thankful to each and every video person that has been a member of the Stampeder video department with me since the early 1990s."
Folan is a native Calgarian who been with the Stampeders organization for 27 years. As director of video operations, Folan and his team produce and edit all game and practice footage for the football operations department as well as the compiling all video requirements for the CFL draft.
Folan is invaluable to the football operations as he provides assistance in multiple areas to coaches, scouts and other staff. He is on call to them at all hours to ensure their needs are met and they can focus on their game planning, film review, player evaluation and all the other important aspects required in doing their job successfully.
Folan's experience and tech smarts make him an essential asset within the Stampeders organization and also across the league.
In addition, Folan helps the Stampeders and the CFL fulfill one of their most important mandates - the support of grassroots football - by working closely with local amateur teams at multiple levels including high school, minor, junior and university as part of a program he started in 2005.
