Laredo Bucks News Release
COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Arctic Wolf Ice Center in College Station, Texas, is currently hosting the Christian Hockey Camp International for kids age 9-17. More than 60 kids are participating. CHCI holds camps all over Canada and the United States and this is the first ever CHCI camp in Texas.
Hockey Ministries International has been hosting CHCI camps for 30 years. Instructors include current and former NHL players, AHL, Minor Pro, European, and University level players and coaches. All the staff who participate in the camp are volunteers. They volunteer their time because they believe in the program and enjoy working with the campers.
The on ice instructors in College Station include current Laredo Bucks head coach and former NHL and WHA player Terry Ruskowski, along with current Houston Aero Bill Kinkel, former NHL and WHA player Bill Butters, and former NHL goalie and Stanley Cup Champion Glenn 'Chico' Resch.
"This camp is a phenomenal program in the quality of the hockey instruction, in addition to the quality of the spiritual and life instruction. I have seen absolutely riveted attention by the kids of every age group to both the on ice instructors, and the off ice instructors," said Glenn Hart. "To have Terry Ruskowski and Bill Butters, both of whom were long time major league pro players, and Chico Resch an NHL All Star and Stanley Cup winning goalie is unbelievable from the standpoint of the hockey knowledge that they are teaching these kids. These are truly great Christian family men who are teaching the kids much more important lessons. Also, the campers and parents alike have just marveled at the quality of The Cambridge dorm, and the Arctic Wolf Ice Center"
Hart, who is a member of the Laredo Bucks ownership group and also the ownership group of the Arctic Wolf Ice Center, is a part time resident of Brazos County. Hart also recently completed a term on the executive committee for the Texas A&M 12th Man Foundation.
The Arctic Wolf Ice Center opened in April of 2005 and serves the residents of the Brazos Valley. It is the home rink for the Texas A&M club hockey program.
The CHCI mission is two fold, both improving the players on the ice and also preparing them for challenges they will face off the ice. Each day the devotional introduces the "game plan" for the day - a theme from the Hockey Players Handbook. The theme is followed in the daily Christian Value Discussion when counselors meet with their groups and discuss a number of topics related to life's inevitable challenges.
The camp runs thru this Friday at the Arctic Wolf Ice Center. Campers are on the ice from 9 a.m. to noon and from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Campers are residing at The Cambridge, a privately owned dormitory that is less than a mile from the Texas A & M campus and the rink
