Broncos fall 7-4 to Amarillo

LAREDO, Texas - The Laredo Broncos fell 7-4 to the Amarillo Dillas in front of 908 fans at Veterans Field on Monday night. Amarillo took the rubber game of the three game set to capture the series. The Broncos continue their six game home stand with a three game set against Edinburg starting on Wednesday. Its $1 hotdog night at the ballpark. The Broncos got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third inning. Shortstop Arnoldo Ponce lined a two out double to the gap in left center field to score left fielder David Fowler and make it 1-0 Laredo.

Amarillo took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on back-to-back two out doubles by left fielder Bryce Morrison and right fielder Brett Donahoo off Broncos starter RHP Daryl Roque.

Laredo came back with another run off Dillas starter RHP Taylor Allen in the bottom of the fourth. Right fielder Anthony Bennett jerked a two out single to right field to plate catcher Jose Salas and tie the game at 2-2.

The Dillas retook the lead in the top of the fifth. Second baseman Carlos Figueroa delivered a two out infield single to make it 3-2, then another run scored on an error to make it 4-2.

Laredo responded again. This time it was Salas singling with two outs to plate designated hitter Palmer Karr to cut the lead to 4-3.

Amarillo extended their lead in the top of the sixth via the long ball. Left fielder Bryce Morrison lifted a leadoff solo homer to left, then Donahoo hammered a solo shot also to left for a 6-3 Dillas lead.

Laredo got a little closer as Karr doubled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to score second baseman Brad Hough and trim the deficit to 6- 4.

The Dillas once again upped their lead, this time getting a run in the top of the ninth inning on a sacrifice fly by Figueroa off Broncos reliever LHP Jonathan Pusateri, to make it 7-4.

Laredo went quietly in the ninth against Amarillo closer RHP Chris Waters. Final Score Amarillo 7, Laredo 4.

Allen got the win, allowing four earned runs in 6.1 innings and striking out six to win his fifth straight decision and improve to 7-4. Roque took the loss, allowed six runs, five earned and striking out five as he fell to 8-7. Waters worked the ninth inning to pick up his 11th save of the season for Amarillo.
