Jupiter Hammerheads News Release
JUPITER, FL - For a team in need of a spark Viosergy Rosa provided it in bottom of the seventh inning on Monday. With the Hammerheads on the verge of being swept by Charlotte, Rosa hit a three-run walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to give Jupiter a 6-5 win the second game of a doubleheader.
Charlotte had just broken a three-three tie in the top of the seventh thanks to RBI singles by Justin O'Conner and Josh Sale and the Hammerheads were just three outs away from losing their fifth straight.
But the Sharks showed some fight rallying in the bottom of the final frame. Anthony Gomez started the seventh with a walk and after a strikeout, Justin Bohn singled to left-center. After Colin Moran flied out, the stage was set for Rosa.
The 24-year-old first baseman took the first pitch he saw for Zach Cooper over the 382 sign in right-center for his sixth long ball of the year. His teammates mobbed him at the plate as the Sharks finished a long day of baseball on a high note.
The doubleheader started at 12:05 p.m. and game one was all Charlotte as the Stone Crabs ended up with a 10-0 win was Albert Suarez and Marcus Jensen limited the Sharks to just four hits.
Game one also had a 53 minute rain delay in the top of the sixth before the game was finished. Game two, which was supposed to start 30 minutes after the first game, was delayed due to weather and didn't end up starting until 4:50 p.m. When Rosa's game winner cleared the fence, just over seven hours had passed since the first pitch of game one was thrown.
The Hammerheads saved their best performance of the day for the last game as the bats were much more successful. Gomez and Ryan Goetz each had RBI singles and Blake Barber hit a run scoring double in the early innings.
The hits by Barber and Goetz gave the Sharks a lead in the fourth, although Charlotte would rally to tie the game in the top of the fifth before taking the lead in the seventh. All of that wouldn't matter when the Hammerheads found a way to win when they were down to their last out in the seventh.
The Hammerheads will hope that the thrilling game two win will give the them some momentum as the team begins a three game Fins vs. Feathers series with the Palm Beach Cardinals on Tuesday. Palm Beach will be the home team on Tuesday while Jupiter will serve as the home team on Wednesday and Thursday. Thursday's game will kick off Mega Bash, the can't miss event of the summer. Tickets are still available.
Game 1
WP: Albert Suarez (1-0)
LP: Matt Milroy (0-2)
Game 2
WP: Colby Suggs (1-3)
LP: Zach Cooper (0-1)
