(Rochester, NY)... Florida Panthers defenseman and Rochester native Rory Fitzpatrick and the Amerks' mascot, The Moose, will be taking part in the "Chips for Bliss" fundraiser event on Sunday, August 17th from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Total Sports Experience (880 Elmgrove Rd.).

The event will benefit 21-year-old Rochester native Michael Bliss, who was severely injured in Buffalo, suffering a broken neck and paralysis from the waist down. 'Chips for Bliss' is a fundraising event to help pay for the deep costs of his medical expenses as he embarks on his long road to recovery.

The festivities on Sunday feature table games, a kid's fun center, sports celebrities, live music, food court and much more. Fitzpatrick and The Moose will sign autographs and greet those in attendance. General admission is $10.00 or $40.00, which includes admission to play casino-style games for prizes. Kids under 10 years will be admitted for free.

Michael Bliss is the oldest child of Cheryl and Michael Bliss. He has one younger brother, Matthew, and younger sister, Kelsey, and family pets, Gracie and Sabretooth.

Michael and his siblings grew up in the Rochester suburb of Greece, where Michael graduated from Arcadia High School in 2005. During his high school days, he excelled academically, musically and athletically, while working at DiRosato's pizza parlor. However, he was most passionate about hockey, which he played all four years for the Greece Lightning.

Upon graduating from Greece Arcadia in the spring of 2005, Michael continued his education at Monroe Community College. After two years, he left his hometown and enrolled in the accounting program at the University at Buffalo.

The Amerks open their 53rd season in the American Hockey League against the Syracuse Crunch on Friday, October 10th at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial.
