NORFOLK, VA - The Tampa Bay Lightning, NHL parent club of the Norfolk Admirals, have named Brad Chavis head athletic trainer of the Admirals, Norfolk general manager Mike Butters announced today.

"Brad joins the Admirals with a wealth of experience in hockey," said Butters. "He is well-liked by his players, and his professionalism and approach to the game is extremely valuable. With the amount of injuries in the game, having a person of Brad's nature will surely eliminate man-games lost to injury."

Chavis comes to the Admirals following four seasons in the ECHL. He had served as head athletic trainer for the Phoenix RoadRunners over the past two seasons.

Prior to joining Phoenix, Chavis spent two years with the Pensacola IcePilots. He joined Pensacola in 2004-05 as assistant athletic trainer and became head athletic trainer in 2005-06. The Pensacola, Florida, native began his career in professional hockey as the head athletic trainer for the 2003-04 Muskegon Fury squad that captured the former United Hockey League's Colonial Cup.

Chavis is a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA), the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society and Society of Professional Hockey Equipment Managers (PHATS-SPHEM) and the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). He is a Certified Athletic Trainer and is accredited by NASM as a Performance Enhancement Specialist.

Chavis graduated in 2003 from the University of West Florida with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Exercise Science. He and his wife, Jessica, have a son, Cameron (2).
