
Roosters Set Roster, Open Season Tomorrow

RICHMOND, IN â The Richmond Roosters begin their defense of the 2001 Frontier League Championship tomorrow night, Wednesday May 29th when they take on the Johnstown Johnnies at Point Stadium in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. On Tuesday, the Roosters set their opening day roster and named Rich Jelovcic as the starting pitcher for Wednesday night's game.
The Roosters roster includes 14 players from last year's team including veterans Fran Riordan, John Tavares and Scott Marple. Championship series MVP Jeremiah Klosterman will once again be behind the plate receiving pitches from six returning pitchers including Jelovcic and Chad Sosebee. Richmond native Jeremiah Deakins also will return to the Roosters outfield.
Top newcomers include pitchers Enrique Baca who went 8-2 with a 2.94 ERA this season at Lynn University and tryout camp draft picks Mark Taylor, Mike Henry and Mark Hickey. Union College product Leroy Dunn and Bronx native Danny Troncoso solidify the infield while Phil Willingham and Drew Miller compete for position in the outfield.
The Roosters return to McBride Stadium on June 1st when they open their 2002 home campaign against the Washington Wild Things. The Roosters will celebrate their 2001 Frontier League Championship on that night and the first 500 fans through the gates will receive a Championship Photo.
