Richmond Roosters News Release
RICHMOND, INDIANA â The Richmond Roosters were able to overcome overcast skies and a wet field left over from Saturday's rains to host a pleasant Sunday afternoon fan experience at McBride Stadium. Originally scheduled as an exhibition game against the expansion Florence Freedom, the Roosters played a Green/Orange scrimmage when unforeseen circumstances forced the Florence club to cancel the trip. This allowed the fans to get a good look at the new faces in the Roosters organization, while new field manager Chris Mongiardo was able to get more pitches and at-bats for his players.
The team hosted the first Little Roosters Club meeting before the scrimmage allowing members to interact with Roosters players and Rowdy Rooster. The score was not kept for the scrimmage, but fans were able to see a pair of home runs and watch their favorite stars from last season and the new faces in spring training camp in action. Following the game fans were able to visit the home dugout as players signed autographs.
The Roosters open on the road against the Evansville Otters this Saturday, May 24th. The Roosters home opener is scheduled for May 31, against the Kalamazoo Kings. The pre-game festivities will include the championship ring and banner presentation ceremonies to honor the 2002 Frontier League Champion Roosters. Post game fireworks are sponsored by U.S. Bank along with a t-shirt giveaway. For tickets or more information, call 765-935-PLAY, stop by the ticket office at McBride stadium or visit www.richmondroosters.com.
