Richmond, Indiana â The Roosters have added three newcomers to the spring training list for the upcoming season:
Tyler Balentine, a pitcher from the University of Buffalo, compiled a 4-18 record between 2001 and 2003 with the Bison. Balentine's ERA improved each season and finished at 6.38 in his final year of collegiate action. Buffalo struggled to a 5-21 mark in the highly competitive Mid-American Conference. Balentine has played in the New York Collegiate League and the New England Collegiate Baseball League, both are wooden bat summer leagues consisting primarily of NCAA Division I players.
Travis Turner, a utility player from Schreiner University in Kerrville, Texas. The Houston native hit .260 with 16 RBI and 2 HR in his senior season (2004). Turner was asked to pitch for the Mountaineers as well, and compiled a 2-3 record with a 7.27 ERA. In 2003, he hit .357 with 34 RBI.
Chris Cole, an outfielder from Thomas University in Thomasville, Georgia. Cole batted .374 with 11 HR and 41 RBI as a senior for the Night Hawks. Cole also played two seasons at Stetson University, a NCAA Division I program, before going to the independent NAIA program in Georgia. His baseball experience includes a stop in the Coastal Plains College Wooden Bat League where he hit .273 with 3 HR and was in the top four of every offensive statistical category on the team.
The Roosters finished 43-53 in 2004, 5th place in the Eastern Division of the independent, Frontier League. The 2005 season will begin on May 25th at McBride Stadium against the Florence Freedom. The 96 game schedule includes 48 home games.
