Richmond Roosters News Release

Richmond, Indiana – The Roosters announced today that Chris Mongiardo will return as the Roosters manager for the 2005 season and pitcher Matt Schweitzer will be a player/coach.

Chris Mongiardo will manage the Roosters for a third consecutive season. He holds a career record of 93-82, including a 50-39 mark in his inaugural season of 2003. Richmond finished 43-53 in 2004, 5th place in the Eastern Division. Mongiardo was also the pitching coach on the Roosters 2001 and 2002 Frontier League Championship teams and his resume includes a stint as pitching coach and recruiting coordinator at Florida Southern, where he helped that school into the 2002 College World Series.

Matt Schweitzer, the Johnsburg, Illinois native, will return as a pitcher on the Roosters staff and also serve as pitching coaching for the 2005 season. Schweitzer finished with a 6-5 record and a 3.40 ERA in 2004. He returned to Richmond as a reliever following a stint with the Kansas City Royals organization and was asked to move into the rotation for his last seven appearances of 2004. Schweitzer previously helped lead the Roosters to the Frontier League's only back-to-back championships and holds the Roosters career records for appearances (173), innings (283), wins (23), and strikeouts (326).

"We are extremely excited about the return of Chris Mongiardo as our manager" said Roosters General Manager Deanna Beaman, "and Matt Schweitzer will be an excellent addition to our coaching staff and brings a wealth of experience and knowledge."

The Roosters will begin the 11th season in the twelve team, independent, Frontier League. The 2005 season will begin on May 25th at McBride Stadium against the Florence Freedom. The 96 game schedule includes 48 home games.
