Rookies Power Wings' 13-11 Win Over Mammoth

DENVER, CO - The Philadelphia Wings (1-0) were led by two of their first round draft picks to a 13-11 win over the Colorado Mammoth at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO. Forwards Sean Greenhalgh, Luke Wiles along with fourth year forward Keith Cromwell, led the Wings in scoring, in a come from behind victory in their season opener, which was also former Philadelphia Wing Gary Gait's debut as the Head Coach of the Colorado Mammoth.

"I thought we had a great overall team performance," said Wings' General Manager and Head Coach Lindsay Sanderson. "I was very impressed with both Wiles and Greenhalgh and how they both kept their composure tonight in front of a big crowd here in Denver."

Greenhalgh, the Wings first pick (3rd overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft, led the way in scoring with seven points (4G, 3A) in his first career National Lacrosse League game. Wiles, the Wings second pick (4th overall) in the 2005 Entry Draft, followed with two goals in his first ever career game.

"I was anxious and excited to get started tonight and I think it took me a little bit to settle down," said Greenhalgh. "I really started to find my rhythm in the second half and I think my teammates did too." Leading the Wings in scoring were Sean Greenhalgh with seven points (4G, 3A), Keith Cromwell with four points (2G, 2A), Luke Wiles (2G, 1A) Jake Bergey, and Shawn Nadelen with three points (3A) each, Dan Marohl, Jeff Spano with two points (1G, 1A), Dan Finck, Jeff Ratcliffe, and Rob Van Beek all with one goal each. Matt Roik made 44 saves in goal for the Wings.

Leading Colorado in scoring was Gavin Prout with five points (3G, 2A), Dan Carey with four points (1G, 3A), Jay Jalbert with three points (2G, 1A), Nick Carlson, Brian Langtry, Ben Prepchuk, and Gee Nash with two points (1G, 1A), and Chris Gill with one goal. Colorado goaltender Nash made 34 saves on the night.

Notes: The Colorado Mammoth honored former Philadelphia Wing Gary Gait in a pre-game ceremony to honor his retirement from the game of lacrosse. Gait debuted tonight in his first game as the Mammoth's Head Coach ... The Wings open the home portion of the 2006 season at the Wachovia Center on Saturday, January 14 at 8 p.m. vs. the Minnesota Swarm. The Wings will first face the Swarm at the Xcel Energy Center next Friday, January 6 prior to their home opener.
