Iowa Chops News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Professional Hockey Players' Association announced that Iowa Stars rookie Defenseman Mark Fistric has been nominated for the InterContinental Hotels Group Ironman Award for the 2006-07 season. Fistric is one of 20 American Hockey League (AHL) players nominated for the award.
The ICHG Ironman Award is presented annually to a Professional Hockey Players' Association (PHPA) Member playing in the AHL, who has participated in each of the team's Regular Season games and has contributed both offensively and defensively throughout the 2006-07 season.
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Fistric became the first Iowa Stars player to appear in every Regular Season game. Including 12 Calder Cup Playoff games, the rookie Defenseman skated in 92 consecutive games in an Iowa Stars uniform. The 20-year old registered two goals, 22 assists, a 'plus 3' rating and had 83 penalty minutes during the Regular Season: 80(2/22/24)+3. Prior to the Playoffs, he was selected by his teammates as the team's 7th Player and named by the Hockey Operations Staff as the Most Improved Player.
The Ironman Award nominations are based upon individual player performance, with primary consideration placed on games played, points, and plus/minus statistics. A selection committee comprised of PHPA officials will announce the winners at the PHPA Annual Meeting in June.
