Penguins sign McLean for 2007-2008 season

WILKES-BARRE, PA - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed forward Kurtis McLean to an American Hockey League contract for the 2007-2008 season, it was announced on Tuesday.

"Kurtis joined the Penguins two years ago as a free agent, and has since become one of the most dedicated and driven players in Wilkes-Barre," said Pittsburgh Penguins Assistant General Manager Chuck Fletcher. "He has carved out a niche with the team through hard work, skill and determination, and we are happy to have him back for another year."

McLean, 26, recently completed his second season with the Penguins, recording 32 points (16+16) in 55 games with the team. He ranked tied for fifth on the club in power play goals (5), seventh in goals (16) and eight in points (32).

Additionally, McLean finished sixth on the team in playoff scoring with seven points, and tied for third on the club with four goals in the postseason.

A native of Kirkland Lake, Ontario, McLean began the season with the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), recording 23 points (11+12) in 16 games before being promoted to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on November 29.

The 6-0, 180 pound center split the 2005-06 season between Wheeling and Wilkes-Barre, recording 56 points (31+25) in 32 games with the Nailers, and 15 points (4+11) in 34 games with the Penguins. He was selected to participate in the 2006 ECHL All-Star Game, but was unable to play due to being recalled by Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

McLean was originally signed by the Penguins on September 29, 2005, after completing a record-setting career at Norwich University. McLean led the Cadets in scoring in each of his four seasons with the Division-III school, finishing his career with 212 points (118+94) in 115 games.
