Vancouver, B.C. - The Vancouver Giants kicked off their 15th season in the WHL with a gutsy 3-2 win over the Seattle Thunderbirds Friday night at the Pacific Coliseum, led by Ty Ronning who scored two goals in the win.

Radovan Bondra opened the scoring for the Giants seven minutes into the opening frame when scored his first WHL goal in his WHL debut. Minutes later, Dakota Odgers and Luke Osterman dropped the gloves at centre ice. Odgers got the takedown after both landed blows.

The second period saw both teams go back and forth with scoring chances and big hits from both sides. With two minutes left in the middle frame, Brennan Menell and Ronning broke into the Seattle zone on a 2-on-2 rush, and Ronning slid the puck into the net on the broken play, beating Thunderbirds' goalie Taz Burman.

The T-Birds would cut the Giants lead in half when Scott Eansor beat Payton Lee less than five minutes into the third period. Nick Holowko tied the game at 2-2 with eight minutes remaining. But late in the third, Ronning got his second of the game on the powerplay as he put a feed from Carter Popoff into the net from the slot.

The Giants are back in action Sunday night as they take on the Kelowna Rockets. Puck drop is set for 6pm. For tickets, visit TicketLeader.ca or call 604-4-GIANTS.
