Toronto, ON - June 7, 2010 - It doesn't get any more Canadian than this: RONA and the Canadian Football League are teaming up to deliver the RONA CANADA DAY KICKOFF on Canada Day weekend.

"We are enormously pleased that RONA, a great Canadian company, is working with us to make the start of the 2010 CFL season on Canada's holiday a truly great Canadian celebration," said Mark Cohon, the Commissioner of the Canadian Football League.

Through a contest and special promotion for fans, RONA and the CFL will proudly trumpet that the Canadian Football League is back on July 1st for another exciting year of Canadian football.

The special promotion is the RONA Make the Team Contest: fans who visit a RONA store until June 13 can win a chance to travel with their favourite team to an away game, with "inside access" as they prepare to win on the road.

For CFL fans, the start of the regular season heralds the best part of a Canadian summer, and a balmy evening at the stadium is as much of the CFL experience as bundling up for the Grey Cup in November. Furthermore, the CFL and RONA are very pleased to announce that the retailer will be coming back as a proud partner of the CFL for the next three seasons. RONA has been a partner of the CFL for nine years.

"As the largest Canadian distributor and retailer of hardware, renovation and gardening products, RONA takes tremendous pride in its partnership with the CFL. We've been partners for several years now, and both RONA and the CFL have undergone incredible expansion. Our shared success and RONA's visibility at CFL games always fill our employees with pride, all across the country, and that's a feeling we want to share with our Canadian customers. Our association with the CFL and its players reflects the values of our company and our engagement in communities all over Canada," said RONA vice president of marketing, image and sponsorships, Pierre L'Heureux.

"Our fans know and respect the fact that RONA is a tremendous partner of the CFL, not only because RONA is known for excellent products and service, but because RONA is a partner that really understand that our league prides itself on two things: being Canadian, and putting our fans at the centre of everything we do," Cohon said.

"That's why their support for the RONA Canada Day Kickoff and their commitment to the Make the Team contest is such a perfect fit with the CFL. If this is our league - and for Canadians it truly is - then RONA is our store."

CFL training camps opened June 6th and pre-season games are scheduled for June 13, 15, 19 and 20. The 2010 CFL regular season opener between Montreal and Saskatchewan airs on RDS and TSN at 7:00 p.m. ET on Canada Day, and will be immediately followed at 10 p.m. ET by the Toronto Argonauts playing the Stampeders in Calgary. Friday Night Football on July 2 features the Winnipeg Blue Bombers hosting the Hamilton Tiger-Cats at 8:00 p.m. ET. And the opening weekend of the CFL season concludes Sunday, July 4 with the B.C. Lions visiting the Edmonton Eskimos at 7:00 p.m. ET, with all games broadcast on TSN.

"We're very excited about the upcoming season, and the fact it will culminate with the 98th Grey Cup in Edmonton," Cohon said. "And I know RONA, and all of our partners and fans, share in that excitement. We can't wait to get started."
