Fort Myers Mighty Mussels News Release

FORT MYERS -- Mike McCardell, Loek Van Mil, and Kyle Waldrop teamed up on another stellar pitching performance at Hammond Stadium for the Fort Myers Miracle in a 2-1 defeat of the Lakeland Flying Tigers, with all the scoring coming on a first-inning Deibinson Romero home run.

After Chris Cates walked, Romero lined his first home run as a Miracle player over the left-field wall. All Lakeland could manage was a two- out RBI single in the sixth inning against Mike McCardell (7-3). McCardell limited the Tigers to just four hits in six innings, with one earned run, two walks, and three strikeouts.

Loek van Mil worked two perfect innings in relief for Fort Myers (36-19), with two strikeouts, before Waldrop struck out one on his way to a 1-2-3 ninth for his second save.

Lakeland (22-27) pitcher L.J. Gagnier (3-4) suffered the loss with a very strong outing aside from the one longball mistake in the opening frame. Gagnier finished six innings with just two hits, two runs, two walks, and six strikeouts. Robbie Weinhardt surrendered one hit in two innings while striking out three.

Romero, after struggling for most of May, has hit .310 in his last eight games.

Trevor Feeney (0-2, 3.22) and Steve Hirschfeld (1-1, 1.23) will face off in Monday's game two at Hammond Stadium.
