
Rogues Win Ninth Straight Home Game

MEDFORD, OR - Still in the hunt for the WCL playoffs, the Medford Rogues did their part Sunday night with a 9-3 win over the Cowlitz BlackBears at Harry & David Field. MVP candidate 1B Kevin Davidson led the way with a 2-4, 3 RBI night while taking over the league lead in runs batted in.
After Cowlitz took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, the Rogues tied the score in the bottom of the inning with a leadoff triple by CF Spencer Smith, who scored on a sacrifice fly by RF Matt Taylor. The score remained tied until the third, when Medford starter Jamie Flynn walked in the go-ahead run and was relieved by RHP Brandon Williams.
In the bottom of the fourth the Rogues scored four runs to take a lead they would not relinquish. Davidson led the way with a three-RBI opposite field double, then scored on a single by 3B Parker Miles. The Rogues scored two runs in each of the sixth and seventh innings to put the game away.
Flynn struggled early with five walks and two earned runs in 2 2/3 innings. Williams went 5 1/3 innings of no-run ball to move to 3-3 on the season. Cowlitz starter Zach Wilkins gave up seven runs in six innings and dropped to 2-3 on the year for the Black Bears.
Three Rogues hitters - Davidson, 2B Joe Chavez and DH Jerad Casper - had two hits each to lead the nine-hit Medford attack. Five players had RBI, led by Davidson's three.
The Rogues move into fourth place in the WCL South with a 22-22 record and sit 4 Ãâý games out of the second playoff spot in the South. Medford is also 7-3 in their last 10 games and have a nine-game home winning streak. The two teams play again Monday night at 6:35 p.m. at Harry & David Field.
