Rogues Take Series

MEDFORD, OR - The Medford Rogues claimed the three game series against the visiting Walla Walla Sweets as the Rogues took their second victory in as many days with 6-2 score tonight at Harry and David Field. With the win, the Rogues take the three game series 2-1 and improve to 21-18 in league play. Walla Walla drops to 19-20 in league play.

The Rogues were driven offensively by first baseman Victor Garcia who managed to take the lead for league home runs this season by hammering in his seventh for this season. In his three at bats, Garcia had one run, one hit, two walks as well as two RBI's to go along with his homer for the night. Garcia's batting average for the season now stands at .271.

Center fielder Spencer Smith and catcher Joey Morgan also each contributed to the Rogues win with their solid displays at bat. Smith went 3-3 with two runs, one RBI and one walk to improve his average for the season to .318. Morgan meanwhile had three at bats for one run, one hit, and one walk to maintain his team leading average of .409.

On the mound, Jackson Bertsch (5-1) got the nod for the start and was nothing but consistent in his seven innings pitched to record the win. Bertsch threw 96 pitches for seven hits, two runs both which were earned, one walk and seven strikeouts. Bertsch's ERA stands at 2.95 for the season and he tied Mac Acker for the team record in wins.

Walla Walla pitcher Mike Paulson (1-2) recorded the loss from his five innings pitched. Paulson threw 102 pitches for seven hits, four runs which three of were earned, five walks, and four strikeouts for a season ERA of 3.46.

A crowd of 1,676 had the opportunity to wave goodbye to a few Rogues players who made their final home appearances of the season. Clayton Meyer, Blaine Tanner, Joe Record and John Forsythe all made their final bow in front of an enthusiastic and supportive crowd as they will all head home for school.

The Rogues find themselves on the road for the next week as they travel to take on the Kitsap BlueJackets followed by the Bellingham Bells. The Rogues return home on August 4 as they face off against the Klamath Falls Gems before ending the 2014 regular season with a three game series at home against the South Division leaders the Corvallis Knights.
