Rogers CFL Players of the Week

Canadian Football League Week # 1

Offensive Player of the Week

QB - Dave Dickenson #12

B.C. Lions

Highlights

Dickenson completed 22 of 28 passes thrown (78.6%) for a total of 260 yards and one touchdown. He also ran seven times for 55 yards.

Game Notes:

Dickenson showed his maturity and experience as he matched wits against last years' leagues' best defence.

The B.C. pivot had a solid game, keeping the Argos defence off balance with the combination of his rushing and passing plays. Dickenson had no turnovers for the game.

In the last three minutes, down by a point, his poise and patience led the Lions to a game winning drive. An 80 yard drive, capped off with a two point conversion put the Lions up by 7 for good.

Dickenson withstood all the pressures of the day and persevered.

1st Runner Up: Nealon Greene #15, Saskatchewan Roughriders

2nd Runner Up: Ricky Ray #15, Edmonton Eskimos

Judge: Bob Krouse

Defensive Player of the Week

DB - LaDouphyous McCalla #1

Saskatchewan Roughriders

Highlights

McCalla had one interception, two tackles, and knocked down two passes.

Game Notes:

McCalla was the catalyst that sparked the play of the Saskatchewan defensive secondary.

Whenever the ball was thrown to his side of the playing field, McCalla was able to defend. The Saskatchewan defensive back broke up two passes and intercepted another.

McCalla is definitely a player who leads by example - giving everything he has on each play, never quitting until the whistle blows.

1st Runner Up: Steven Marsh #13, Edmonton Eskimos

2nd Runner Up: Kevin Eiben #35, Toronto Argonauts

Judge: Bob Krouse

Lineman of the Week

DE - Rashad Jeanty #97

Edmonton Eskimos

Highlights

Jeanty had one special teams tackle, one fumble recovery and three quarterback sacks.

Game Notes:

The Edmonton defence pursued Renegades' quarterback Kerry Joseph all night. The team managed to sack Joseph seven times, with Jeanty leading the way with three.

Rashad Jeanty's youth, strength and determination will only get better with experience. The Edmonton Eskimos can only improve with Jeanty's maturity.

2nd Runner Up: Kai Ellis #93, Ottawa Renegades

Judge: Bob Krouse

Special Teams Player of the Week

The importance of special teams' play became apparent with the outstanding performance of Saskatchewan running back Cory Holmes. He returned the initial kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown. Holmes took the first punt return 63 yards to put his team in scoring position. The Roughriders were up 14-0 in the first three minutes of the game.
