CANADIAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE WEEK 3
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Player Name: Nealon Greene #15 - Saskatchewan Roughriders
Player Position: Quarterback
Highlights:
Nealon Greene rushed 11 times for 37 yards and completed 31-39 passes (79.5%) for 275 yards and two touchdowns.
Game Notes:
Greene was masterful as he orchestrated the Saskatchewan offense. In the first quarter he completed 85% of his passes. He methodically moved the ball, utilizing short passes and runs, and keeping the defense honest with the odd long pass attempt.
He was consistently successful moving his team down the field for a touchdown or a field goal attempt.
1st Runner Up: Dave Dickenson #12 - QB - B.C. Lions
2nd Runner Up: Corey Holmes #19 - RB - Saskatchewan Roughriders
Judge: Bob Krouse
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Player Name: Richard Karikari #1 - Montreal Alouettes
Player Position: Free Safety
Highlights:
Karikari had two defensive tackles and two interceptions.
Game Notes:
Karikari's skill in anticipating the pass, combined with his speed provides him the ability to cover a wide range of the secondary.
This was apparent in Friday night's game when Karikari intercepted two passes, halting the opponent's drives at critical times during the match.
1st Runner Up: A.J. Gass #77 - LB - Edmonton Eskimos
2nd Runner Up: Brian Clark #48 - LB - Calgary Stampeders
Judge: Bob Krouse
LINEMAN OF THE WEEK
Player Name: Anthony Collier #97 - Ottawa Renegades
Player Position: Defensive End
Highlights:
Anthony Collier had one defensive tackle, five quarterback sacks and tipped a ball that resulted in an interception.
Game Notes:
Collier was tenacious in his pursuit of the ball. He sacked Dave Dickenson five times and hurried the Lions' quarterback two other times. Collier forced the opposition to double team him in the second half. Even while being double teamed his hands were up, resulting in one deflection that landed into his teammate's hands.
Collier's five sacks in one regular season game ties him for the record matched by eight other players, most recently by former Montreal Alouette Dwayne Butler in 2003.
Collier never stopped until the whistle blew. Numerous times he was downfield, chasing pass receivers after their catches.
An outstanding performance by the young defensive end and barring injury, Collier should be one of the top quarterback sack leaders by the end of the season.
1st Runner Up:
Brent Johnson #97- DE - B.C. Lions
2nd Runner Up: Anwar Stewart #9 - DE - Montreal Alouettes
Judge: Bob Krouse
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Player Name: Ezra Landry #16 - Montreal Alouettes
Player Position: Kick Returner
Highlights:
Ezra Landry returned four kickoffs for 93 yards, three punts for 83 yards and two missed field goals for 141 yards for a total return yardage of 317.
He also scored two touchdowns on a punt return of 74 yards and missed field goal of 125 yards.
Game Notes:
Landry dominated in this match-up, accumulating 317 yards and scoring two touchdowns, helping his team edge the Edmonton Eskimos 32-29.
Each time Landry touches the ball he has the potential to score. Even as the smallest player on Montreal, he is rapidly becoming the most feared Alouette across the League.
1st Runner Up: Aaron Lockett #84 - WR - B.C. Lions
2nd Runner Up: Tony Tompkins #14 - WR - Edmonton Eskimos
Judge: Bob Krouse
