Staten Island FerryHawks News Release
STATEN ISLAND, NY- Anthony Rodriguez tossed a career-high six innings on Wednesday, helping lead the FerryHawks to a 5-1 win over the Ducks at SIUH Community Park. The rookie southpaw allowed just three hits over his six frames to pick up his second Atlantic League win and snap the FerryHawks five game losing skid.
Staten Island grabbed the first lead of the game in the second inning and never relinquished it. Joseph Reyes collected the first of his two RBI doubles against Ducks starter Scott Harkin, driving in Mariel Bautista for the 1-0 lead. Reyes' fourth-inning two-bagger scored Angel Aguilar to double the lead to 2-0.
Antoine DuPlantis sparked the fifth inning rally for Staten Island that extended the lead to 4-0. His single drove home Alfredo Reyes, before Aguilar's sacrifice fly plated Duplantis. The FerryHawks left fielder also thieved third base to get into position for the Aguilar sacrifice fly.
RHP Scott Harkin (4-6) allowed seven hits and four runs over his five innings. He walked two FerryHawks without a strikeout.
LHP Anthony Rodriguez (2-4) allowed a season-low three hits, while walking just one batter. The lone Ducks run came courtesy of L.J. Mazzilli's sixth-inning solo blast.
Ricardo Cespedes supplied an insurance run in the seventh, doubling in Aguilar to extend the lead to 5-1.
RHP Connor Law and RHP Victor Capellan combined to blank the Ducks over the final three innings.
Staten Island (18-42) and Long Island finish off their three-game series Thursday at SIUH Community Park. RHP Nick Carrell gets the ball for the FerryHawks, while RHP Akeel Morris pitches for the Ducks. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM with the FerryHawks pregame show beginning at 6:15 PM.
