LONG BEACH, Calif. (Feb. 13, 2005) â Dennis Rodman returned to the hardwood Sunday, helping the Long Beach Jam (14-10) of the American Basketball Association (ABA) hold off the Ontario Warriors, (11-12) 108-106, in front of a crowd of 2,316 at the Pyramid in Long Beach.
Rodman played 32 minutes, collecting 12 rebounds, two assists and a steal.
"I am an entertainer," Rodman said. "I am just here to have fun and help this team win another championship. I want to end my career the right way."
The Jam led 103-92 with 2:01 remaining in the contest. But the Warriors clamped down on defense and hustled on offense to pull within two points, 108-106, with 6.1 seconds remaining and possession of the ball. After a botched in-bound pass ran three seconds off the clock, the Jam's Fred Vinson stole a second in-bound to try to seal the victory.
Juaquin Hawkins led the Jam with 19 points. Marcus Mason scored 26 points and grabbed 17 rebounds for the Warriors.
Yuta Tabuse energized the Jam with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals. Sean Chen played 13 minutes, scoring 12 points and adding three assists and two rebounds in the win.
Among those in attendance today was former Los Angeles Lakers great, A.C. Green.
Long Beach's Westerly Elementary School Cheer Squad performed today at halftime. Sheriff Chaplin Keith Olivier sang the "Star Spangled Banner."
The Jam's next home game is Sunday, Feb. 20 at 2 p.m. against the Warriors at the Pyramid.
