Rockies pull out second straight win at Great Falls
July 20, 2005 - Pioneer League (PL)
Casper Ghosts News Release
The Casper Rockies showed Tuesday night why they will be a team to be reckoned with this Pioneer League season. Down 1-0 and with White Sox starter Eric Everly cruising, centerfielder Dexter Fowler tattooed a pitch over the left field wall to tie the game. Then, with the score still knotted at 1-1, the Rockies 9th inning heroics took over again.
Bret Berglund singled with one out off of Sox closer Ryan Rote and then moved to second on a passed ball. Catcher Kyle Blumenthal would then tag a Rote fastball to the gap in left center scoring Berglund for the eventual game-winning RBI. The Rockies would add another run off of Rote for the game's final tally.
Casper's pitching was superb again in the win. Anuery Rodriguez went the front five allowing just five hits and one run. Then Manuel Pichardo, Brett Strickland, and closer Andrew Johnston finished the job. Strickland earned the win, his second of '05, and Johnston closed his league leading seventh game.
The Rockies and White Sox play game three of the four-game set at 7:00 in Great Falls tonight. Chaz Roe starts for the Rockies.
