Rockies fall at home to Owlz in series opener

The Casper Rockies fell to Orem 10-5 Friday night at Mike Lansing Field. The Owlz got some stellar pitching, first from starter Jose Arredondo who blanked the Rockies through the front four innings, striking out six. He was followed by two relievers: Kevin Lynch and John Sullivan, who shut down the Casper offense to close the game. Sullivan threw the 8th and 9th innings, giving up no hits and fanning four.

The Rockies got to within a run following a four-run 7th. Jesse Brownell connected on his first home run of the season, a 2-run shot, Cole Garner would later knock in two with a double to close the gap to 6-5. Brownell finished the night with three hits.

Rockies starter Radhames Manzueta suffered the loss to fall to 0-3 on the season. Manzueta went four innings giving up seven hits and three runs, while striking out five. David Hawkins earned the win for Orem; he improves to 1-0.

Casper opens a three-game set versus Ogden, Saturday night at Mike Lansing Field. Ogden is red-hot as winners of eight straight, including a three-game sweep of Casper last week. The Rockies will send lefty Xavier Cedeno to the mound for the 7:05 first pitch.
