Rockford IceHogs News Release
St. Charles, Mis.- The Rockford IceHogs opened their four game road trip with 5-1 win over their Western Division rival Missouri River Otters at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. Short two veteran defenseman, Rod Aldoff and Ryan Bonni, Tim Wedderburn stepped up and chipped in three assists and fueled a solid defensive effort for the IceHogs.
The Hogs didn't waste any time getting on the board in the first period as center J.C. Ruid finished off a rush lead by Wedderburn at 4:14, beating Otters goalie Jason Tapp. Center Bruce Watson later capitalized on a Missouri turnover in their own zone and blasted home a shot to push the Rockford lead to 2-0.
Rockford scored the only goal of the second period as winger Terry Harrison tipped in a Wedderburn shot at 6:01, just as an IceHogs power play expired. The Hogs opened a 4-0 lead in the third frame just 2:01 into the period when defenseman Vince Malts found the back of the net. Missouri tallied their only goal of the night at 5:28 when Hogs goalie Michel Robinson's clear out pass was intercepted by Cole Bassett, and the recently acquired Otter slipped it in making it 4-1 Rockford.
The game didn't end without fireworks however, as at the 6:07 mark of the third period, a six-on-six brawl ensued after IceHogs center Olivier Proulx was trapped inside Missouri's net. Proulx, trying to get out of the net, got mixed up with Tapp. After Tapp and Harrison began throwing punches, Robinson joined the ruckus and both goalies were kicked out of the game.
Center Chris Gobert would close out the scoring at the 18:44 mark with an empty net goal. Robinson picked up the win stopping 18 shots, chipping in an assist and accumulating 29 penalty minutes. Both Gobert and Watson had a goal and an assist in the win.
Next Game: Sunday, November 7 at Quad City Mallards. Game time is 3:00 p.m. The IceHogs and Mallards renew their rivalry at the MARK of the Quad Cities. The two teams have split their two games thus far this season.
