Rockford IceHogs News Release

Muskegon, Mich.- After going 15 games without a loss the Rockford IceHogs now have lost back-to-back games. The Muskegon Fury topped the IceHogs 4-1 on Friday night at the L.C. Walker Arena. The game featured an IceHogs club-record 200 combined penalty minutes including a club-mark of 108 for the IceHogs.

The game didn't start out like the Hogs had hoped as the fell behind 2-0. After pressuring Ryan Cyr and Fury in the Muskegon zone, Rustyn Dolyny completed a 2-on-1 breakaway by shelving his 24th goal of the season past Hogs goalie Frederic Cloutier at 2:12 for the 1-0 lead. That lead was extended with another 2-on-1 break that was read perfectly by IceHogs defenseman Matt Gens. The only problem was that Gens redirected the puck into his own net. Todd Robinson was given credit for the goal at 10:57.

Rockford got the goal back to cut the deficit in half before the first intermission. Winger Robin Big Snake set up fellow wingman Paul Brown who ripped in his fourth goal of the campaign past Cyr making it 2-1. Muskegon grabbed its two-goal lead back on the power play in the second frame. Off of a face-off win, winger Adam Smyth snuck his 12th goal of the season past Cloutier at 10:45, pushing the lead to 3-1.

Muskegon iced the contest in the third period when Watt set up Dolyny for a second time on a 2-on-1 breakaway for his second marker of the night at 13:45. Despite out-shooting Muskegon 35-26, Rockford could only solve Cyr once. The power play let the Hogs down for a second game in row going 0-for-8.

Next Homestand: Friday, March 16 vs. Kalamazoo Wings. Game time is 7:30 p.m. A pre-St. Patrick's Day bash at the MetroCentre as the Hogs welcome the defending Colonial Cup champs. The first 1,000 fans to the game will pick-up an IceHogs Stadium Cup from Bud Light and Bob FM.
