Rockford, Ill.- A back and forth contest Sunday needed extra hockey to determine the winner between the Rockford IceHogs and Flint Generals. The two clubs traded goals all afternoon and then, once again in the shootout. It was the Generals, however, outlasting the Hogs in a tough afternoon for goalies.

With Rockford leading 4-3 at the start of the third period and the teams skating 4-on-4, Flint defenseman Martin Ondrej slipped a wrist shot past Hogs goalie Jake Moreland at 3:34 to tie the game and eventually send it to a shootout. Rockford began the shootout with three straight goals from Bryce Cockburn, Preston Mizzi and Erick Lizon. The Generals countered with goals in rounds two, three and four from Mike Kinnie, Jordan Fox and Jan Jas. Jeff Zehr then tallied in the sixth round to give Flint the win.

Rockford began the see-saw battle when Mike Doyle potted his 17th goal of the season 6:55 into the game. Flint's power play then went to work and Shawn Fischer buried the first of three goals on the advantage for the Generals at 15:15 of the first period. Hogs defenseman Dan Boeser tallied for the third straight game at 18:31 of the opening period, slipping in his fifth goal of the season past Bryan Worosz.

The second period began with Flint on a 5-on-3 advantage and they didn't waste any time tying the game. Just :47 into the frame winger Bobby Reynolds knocked a rebound past Moreland making it 2-2. Mizzi vaulted the Hogs back on top with his team-leading 26th goal of the season at 7:24, but the lead didn't last.

The penalty kill did the Hogs in once again as Jan Jas shelved a 4-on-3 goal at 8:48 to tie the contest at 3-3. Rockford regained the lead again, this time at 10:37 when Mizzi set up winger Jason Ralph who tipped in his eighth goal of season.
