Quad City Mallards News Release
The Mallards host Chicago this afternoon for the final time during the regular season. Quad City is 3-5-0 vs. the Hounds including a 1-3-0 record vs. the Hounds at The MARK.
Last Mallards Game
A wild third period capped a 7-5 Mallards win over Flint last night at The MARK. In the first period, the teams exchanged goals as Justin Chwedoruk scored for Quad City followed by Flint's Shawn Snider netting the game-tying goal. In the second period, Mike Kinnie scored to give Flint a 2-1 lead. Just three minutes later, Chwedoruk recorded his second goal of the night on a Mallards power play to tie the game at two. Patrick Nadeau netted a shorthanded goal just 2:20 later to put the Mallards back in front at 3-2 after two periods. The third period featured seven goals as the team battled back and forth throughout the closing 20 minutes. Jeff Zehr scored on a Flint power play early in the second to tie the game at three. Luke Stauffacher answered back with a power-play marker, his 34th goal of the season, to put the Mallards in front again. Flint's Jan Jas scored 1:24 later to tie the game at four. Quad City's Chad Woollard and Flint's Bobby Reynolds exchanged goals late in the third period to keep the game tied. With just 1:49 left in the contest, Nadeau scored his second goal of the night. The captain's second marker stood up as the game-winner while Dale Lupul scored into an empty net to set the final at 7-5.
Genesis Jersey Auction
Following last night's game, the Mallards hosted the 11th Annual Genesis Jersey Auction. The team auctioned off special St. Patrick's Day themed jerseys to benefit the Genesis Senior Compassion Fund. The auction raised a total of $36,257. Rookie forward Justin Chwedoruk drew the highest bid at $3,000.
Tonight's Opponent
The Hounds visit The MARK after beating Bloomington 6-3 yesterday afternoon at The Sears Centre. With the win, the team improves to 8-2-2 in their last 12 games. The Hounds have moved into a tie for seventh in the UHL standings and are three points better than Elmira, the team that is currently ninth in the UHL. In yesterday's win, rookie forward B.J. Radovich scored his first career hat trick while Maris Ziedins added a pair of goals. Hounds forward Todd Grant leads the UHL in scoring for the month of March. The rookie forward has 14 points (seven goals and seven assists) in 10 games this month. Defenseman Darryl McArthur has also enjoyed a productive month. He has 12 points (a goal and 11 assists) in his last 10 games after recording 17 points (two goals and 15 assists) in his first 42 games of the year.
Playoff Picture
The Mallards can clinch a playoff berth if they win today while Elmira loses (in either regulation or a shootout). It would mark the 12th consecutive post-season berth for Quad City. Muskegon, Fort Wayne, Rockford and Kalamazoo have already secured spots in the Colonial Cup Playoffs.
News & Notes
-The Mallards are 13-21-6 this year when they allow a power-play goal. When the team is perfect on the penalty kill, their record is 18-4-3.
