
Rockets Take Game Four with a Commanding 7-2 Victory in Portland

The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Portland Winterhawks 6-1 on Wednesday night in Portland in game four of the second round of the 2017 WHL Playoffs.
Kelowna opened the scoring 1:48 into the opening frame thanks to Carsen Twarynski picking up his third of the post season. The Rockets took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Scoring opened up in the second period. Reid Gardiner collected his seventh and eighth before Cody Glass responded for the Winterhawks making it 3-1. Nick Merkley then scored his third, followed by Calvin Thurkauf collecting his fourth and fifth to give the Rockets a large five goal lead that they took into the final period.
Caleb Jones scored for the Winterhawks but that would be it for the home squad. Rodney Southam notched his first of the post season shorthanded late as the Rockets took game four by a 7-2 score.
The Rockets were led by Reid Gardiner (2G, 2A), Calvin Thurkauf (2G, 1A), and Nick Merkley (1G, 2A).
Michael Herringer made 35 saves in the winning effort as the Rockets outshot the Winterhawks 40-37.
Kelowna now leads the best-of-seven series 3-1.
The series will now shift back to Kelowna for game five on Friday night at 7:05pm at Prospera Place.
If necessary the series will shift back to Portland for game six.
