Rocket Honour 2010-2011 Award Winners

The PEI Rocket held the 2010-2011 edition of the Fans Choice Awards dinner this evening at the CCC Trade Centre. After finishing the regular season on Sunday in Saint John, the Rocket celebrated the accomplishments of the 2010-2011 season.

The night, hosted by Kirk MacKinnon and Kerri-Wynne MacLeod, was a chance for fans, sponsors and supporters to get up close and personal with the players as the organization paid tribute to the 2010-2011 award winners. Fans were able to visit the PEI Rocket website in early March to vote for the most deserving Rocket players in each of the categories.

"As an organization, we feel it is extremely important to celebrate our team members for their dedication during the past season", said President Serge Savard, Jr. "We have a great group of kids and they deserve this opportunity to be recognized. This event was meant to be a chance for our fans to wish the players well as they begin the playoffs. We are also very excited to have our fans as the decision makers in many of the awards that were handed out".

The 2010-2011 Winners Are:

Rodd Hotels & Resorts Offensive Player of the Year - Ben Duffy

Arsenault Best Cameron Ellis Defensive Player of the Year - Evan Mosher

Confederation Bridge Fan Favorite - Ben Duffy

Murphy's Pharmacies Most Dedicated Player - Matthew Hobbs

BellAliant Student of the Year - Travis McIsaac

Mayor's Community Involvement - Travis McIsaac

Mark's Work Wearhouse Hardest Working Player (+/-) - Philippe Paradis

MooseLight Player of the Year - Ben Duffy

Budget Car & Truck Rental Leading Edge Award - Travis McIsaac

Budget Car & Truck Rental Fan of the Year - Logan White

During the event, a silent auction and live auction took place featuring memorabilia from the Rocket, NHL players and teams, along with packages from a variety of local establishments. Proceeds from the evening will support the PEI Rocket Player's Education Fund which provides scholarships and bursaries to players to continue their education.

Playoff Action - The Rocket will play the Shawinigan Cataractes in the first round of the 2011 QMJHL President's Cup Playoffs. Games 1 and 2 will take place in Shawinigan on Friday and Saturday (March 25 & 26) at 7:30 PM and 4:00 PM respectively. Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) will take place at the Charlottetown Civic Centre on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday (March 29, 30 and April 1) with all games starting at 7:00 PM. Games 6 and 7 if necessary will be played in Shawinigan on Monday and Tuesday, April 4th and 5th at 7:00 PM.
