Toronto Rock News Release

ST. PAUL, MN - The Toronto Rock (5-7) needed overtime to defeat the Minnesota Swarm (2-9) by a score of 9-8 at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota on Sunday evening. Rock captain Colin Doyle was the hero netting the game winner.

Needing to set the tone from the opening faceoff, the Rock were perfect in the opening 15 minutes holding Minnesota off the board. Toronto got 5 goals from 5 different players showing no signs of playing less than 24 hours prior.

The Swarm used a 3-goal run in the second quarter to begin to close the gap, outscoring the Rock 4-2 in the frame. The Rock held a 7-4 lead at the half with Nick Rose stopping 23 of the 27 shots he faced.

Toronto pitched their second shutout of the game keeping Minnesota off the board once again. The Rock's lone goal came from Garrett Billings early in the quarter and increased their lead to 8-4 heading into the final 15 minutes.

Minnesota returned the scoreless favour and tallied 4 times to tie the game 8-8 and force overtime.

Following a couple of possessions each, Doyle found himself all alone behind the Minnesota defenders and ended the game at 2:54 of the extra quarter.

Doyle led the Rock in scoring with 3 goals and 3 assists while Rob Hellyer (0G, 5A) and Billings (2G, 3A) each had 5-point games.

Rose had a sensational night allowing a season-low 8 goals and made 50 saves to earn his 5th win of the season.

Next up, the Rock travel to Philadelphia next Saturday to face the Wings in another big East Division matchup with serious playoff implications for both teams. Toronto's next home game is Sunday, March 30th against the Edmonton Rush at 3pm.
