Philadelphia Wings News Release

Philadelphia, PA - Unable to secure a win against Rochester during the 2014 regular season, the Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) lost momentum late in the crucial game to lose 11-7 against the Knighthawks at Wells Fargo Center on Sunday afternoon.

"Seven goals won't get it done against a team like this," said Head Coach Blane Harrison. "We had the shots, but offensively our goals weren't falling. We need to revisit the drawing board to come up with answers."

Rochester carried their momentum from their win the previous evening in Toronto during the opening quarter. The Knighthawks went on a 4-0 scoring run to take early control of the game. Forward Craig Point tallied two goals and forced Philadelphia to make an early change at goaltender as Brandon Miller replaced starter Evan Kirk. Wings Forward Jordan Hall added the lone goal for Philadelphia as the Wings trailed 4-1 after the initial 15 minutes of play.

Play evened in the second quarter when Philadelphia and Rochester traded goals to tally a single score. Rochester carried a three point advantage heading into halftime, leading 5-2 over Philadelphia. Knighthawks' Forward Craig Point recorded a first half hat trick while Wings Forward Jordan Hall collected his second score of the afternoon.

The Wings came to life in the third quarter after regrouping at halftime. Philadelphia outscored Rochester 4-3 and cut the deficit to two goals. Forward Kevin Crowley added three goals in the third quarter to record his seventh multi-goal game of the year. The Wings trailed 8-6 moving to the final quarter of regulation.

Philadelphia opened the fourth quarter with a goal from veteran Forward Ryan Ward to inch within one score of Rochester. This would be the closest the Wings would be all evening. Rochester illustrated their champion pedigree by closing the game on a 3-0 scoring run to seal the victory. Forwards Craig Point and Dan Dawson each added hat tricks against Philadelphia and accounted for 10 of the Knighthawks' 25 total points.

"After we cut the lead to one, we ended up having a tough go," said Harrison. "Rochester has plenty of guys that are threats on offense. They were able to rally back and regain the momentum. I thought we did a decent job running the transition, but need to work on other areas including our power play, which was not strong tonight."

The Wings had top performances by Forwards Jordan Hall and Kevin Crowley who both recorded multi-goal games and contributed five of the team's seven goals.

The Wings remain at home next week as they battle the Toronto Rock for one of the final remaining spots in the NLL playoffs at the Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, March 22 at 7:30 p.m.
