New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - The Rock Cats defeated the Bowie Baysox by the score of 2-0 on Tuesday evening at New Britain Stadium. Fans were treated to a bit of a pitcher's duel, seeing both starters work 7+ innings.

The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the fourth when 1B Mike Gonzales cracked a two-run homer to put up the only runs of the night. The big first baseman sent Baysox starter RHP Eddie Gamboa's offering high over the wall in right-center, also pushing LF Tony Thomas across the plate. Thomas reached base on an infield style single earlier in the inning.

Rock Cats starter LHP Jason Wheeler cruised through 7 1/3 innings of work before handing the ball off to the bullpen. Wheeler allowed no runs on four hits while issuing no walks and striking out five. His record improves to 3-4 while LHP Ryan O'Rourke earns his tenth hold of the season and RHP Dan Turpen locked down his second save of the year.

Outside of the four-inning hiccup, Gamboa also looked very impressive after harnessing the control of his knuckleball in the earlier innings. The righthander went seven innings, allowing just the two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out seven. He falls to 0-1 on the year.

Highly touted prospects Byron Buxton and Levi Michael, both recently called up from Single-A Fort Myers, arrived to the ballpark to get in uniform but neither entered the game.

The Rock Cats will call upon RHP Tyler Duffey to start Wednesday's contest. He will square off against Bowie starter LHP Nick Additon and first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
