New Britain Rock Cats News Release

New Britain, CT - Estarlin De Los Santos and Mark Dolenc homered and Kyle Gibson struck out seven in an impressive start as the Rock Cats downed Erie, 6-3 on Tuesday night.

De Los Santos put the Rock Cats on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer - his first of the season - with no outs over the left field wall. Ben Revere had led off the inning and was hit by a pitch in the face. He left the game and was replaced by pinch runner Dolenc before De Los Santos launched his homer.

The Rock Cats tacked on another run in the third when Dolenc singled and scored on a two-out double by Joe Benson for the 3-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Gibson cruised through the first three innings, retiring the first nine-straight batters he faced before Erie's Cale Iorg lined a single into left to open the fourth. Gibson kept them off the board until the fifth, when Bryan Pounds knocked in Deik Scram with a double to left.

Dolenc delivered a solo homer with two outs in the fifth to extend the lead, 4-1. He finished the game 2-for-3 with three runs after coming in off the bench.

Gibson (6-5) limited the Seawolves to one run on five hits through seven innings. Carlos Gutierrez allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in 1 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. Billy Bullock came on with two men on base and two outs and forced a fly out to end the game and notch his eighth save.

Duane Below (3-11) allowed four runs on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings to suffer the loss.
