Rochester Tips Norfolk in 15 Innings

Norfolk Tides News Release
Chris Parmalee's bases-clearing double in the 15th inning helped Rochester outlast the Tides 4-1 Wednesday night at Harbor Park.
With the score knotted at 1-1, Rene Rivera started the decisive rally with a one-out single off of Zach Phillips (0-2), who was working his fourth inning of relief. Pedro Florimon followed with a single, and Clete Thomas flied out deep to center to put runners at second and third with two out. After Phillips intentionally walked Matt Carson, Parmalee belted a 2-1 pitch off the left field wall, unloading the bases and giving the Red Wings the lead.
Caleb Thielbar (2-0) earned the win for the Red Wings with 3.2 innings of shutout relief, while Dan Sattler worked the 15th to record his first save of the season.
The 15-inning game was Norfolk's longest of 2012. It was also Norfolk's 15th extra-inning game of the season, the most in the International League.
Tides starter Steve Johnson was impressive in his return to Norfolk as he allowed one run on three hits in six strong innings. He yielded a homer to Matt Carson in the first inning, but ended his outing by retiring each of the last 10 batters he faced. The 24-year-old struck out two without walking a batter as he threw 60 of his 95 pitches for strikes.
L.J. Hoes led Norfolk's offense with two hits and a walk, while Zelous Wheeler added two singles. Hoes has now hit safely in 25 of the last 26 games.
The Tides will wrap up their homestand on Thursday afternoon, with first pitch from Harbor Park set for 12:15. Jason Berken (2-3, 3.28) gets the start for Norfolk against Rochester right-hander Shairon Martis (0-0, 7.56).
