Game Notes: The Rochester Knighthawks take on the San Jose Stealth tonight at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena. Today is Kids' Night as the team mascot, The Moose, and his furry friends will entertain the fans during the contest. The Knighthawks (5-2) enter the game with the best record in the National Lacrosse League. The Stealth, on the other hand, bring a 2-4 record into the contest. The game will be carried on the B2 Networks.
Head-to-Head: Rochester has a 2-0 lifetime record against San Jose, which includes an 8-7 road win last season.
Knighthawks Notes: Rochester got back on track last Saturday, defeating the Arizona Sting, 16-14, at The Blue Cross Arena. With the win, the Knighthawks improved to 3-0 at home and avoided their first two-game losing streak. Rochester has scored the second most goals in the NLL, netting 84 in seven games. John Grant leads the league with 27 goals and is third in points with 44. Goalie Pat O'Toole leads the NLL with five wins and 280 saves. Steve Toll is tied for the scoring lead among league defensemen with 15 points (5+10). Next weekend, Ed Comeau will be the head coach for the East Division and goalie Pat O'Toole, defensemen Steve Toll and Marshall Abrams, and forwards John Grant and Shawn Williams will represent the Knighthawks at the 2006 NLL All-Star game in Toronto on Saturday, February 25th at 4:00 p.m.
Stealth Notes: San Jose enters the contest the losers of four of its last five games. The Stealth suffered an 8-7 loss to the West Division rival Colorado Mammoth on February 11th. The game tonight marks the return of Curt and Derek Malawsky. Curt played for the Knighthawks from 1998 to 2003 and Derek was a âHawk from 2001-2004. Curt notched 283 points (134+149) in 74 career games, while Derek recorded 223 points (75+148) in 47 games. Goalie Anthony Cosmo and forward Gary Rosyski were also 1999 draft picks of the âHawks. In addition, defenseman Eric Martin spends his summers with the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse. Cosmo is second in the NLL with a 9.09 goals-against average and is the starting goalie for the West Division NLL All-Star Team. Derek Malawsky will also represent the Stealth at the event next weekend.
Next Game: Rochester travels to play the Portland LumberJax on Saturday, March 4th. The game at the Rose Garden is a 4:00 p.m. start and will be carried live on the B2 Networks. Rochester returns home the following weekend for a rare Friday night game against the Philadelphia Wings at 7:35 p.m. The meeting is the first of a home-and-home series against the Wings, which ends on Saturday, March 11th at the Wachovia Center. Both games will be carried live on the B2 Networks.
