Philadelphia Wings News Release

PHILADELPHIA - The Wings could not get by their former goalie, Dallas Eliuk, in a 15-12 loss Saturday at the Wachovia Center in front of 12,796 fans. The former Philadelphia netminder made 34 saves for the win. Jake Bergey had the most success on his former teammate with four goals. The Wings trailed for most of the game. They were able to tie the score in each of the first three quarters, but the LumberJax pulled away in the fourth to earn the victory. "We just didn't come with the same intensity and energy that we had last weekend ," said Wings' coach Lindsay Sanderson. "I don't understand. We have to find a way to get more consistency to our game. We didn't have enough going on with our game tonight. There's no excuse for it." Portland started the first quarter with a goal by Ryan Sharp. Bergey tied the game at one on the Wings first shot of the matchup. Marc Morley gave the Wings the lead on the power play, but Matt Dwane got the goal back for the Lumberjax and Ted Dowling and Ryder Bateman put Portland ahead by two. Glenn Clark cut the lead in half only to see the LumberJax score 20 seconds later (Hominuck). Bergey added his second goal of the game in the final minutes of the quarter. The Wings opened the scoring in the second quarter with goals by Luke Wiles and Bergey. Portland answered with two of its own from Del Halladay and Hominuck. The two teams traded goals to end the half. Marohl added a goal to his two assists for the Wings and Hominuck completed the hat trick for the LumberJax. Portland led, 8-7, at halftime. Both teams had opportunities on the power play to start the second half, but neither team could convert. Philadelphia goalie Matt Roik made three tough saves in the middle of the quarter to keep his team in the game. It took eight minutes before the Wings finally put the ball in the net to tie the game at eight. Captain Thomas Hajek scored on a pass from Morley. After a 16-minute scoring drought, the Lumberjax took control with four goals in the final five minutes of the quarter. Sharp netted two goals, while Brodie Merrill and Sharp contributed with one each. Portland held a four-goal lead going into the final quarter. Philadelphia began its comeback attempt with an early fourth-quarter goal by Jeff Ratcliffe. Luke Forget took away the Wings' momentum with a goal less than a minute later. Philadephia's Brock Robertson and Hajek both tried to get the Wings going again by dropping the gloves. The offense finally kicked in with goals by Bergey and Ratcliffe within a one-minute span to bring the Wings within two. A late five-minute penalty on Hajek seemed to end any hopes of victory, but Ratcliffe converted off a rebound from a Chad Thompson shot for a short-handed goal. A late bench minor to the Wings left the team down two men and Dowling was able to add an insurance goal for the Lumberjax. Merrill later threw in an empty-net goal. Jake Bergey led the Wings with four points (4G). Six other players scored goals for Philadelphia, including Glenn Clark (1G,2A), Luke Wiles (1G,1A), Marc Morley (1G,1A), Dan Marohl (1G,4A), Thomas Hajek (1G,1A), and Jeff Ratcliffe(3G,1A).
