Chicago, IL - Chicago Fire FC (9-6-2, 29 points) overpowered Charlotte FC (7-6-5, 25 points) in a 2-1 victory Saturday night at Soldier Field. Forward Robert Lewandowski scored both goals for Chicago in his home debut, his first two in Major League Soccer.

Charlotte struck first with a goal by Pep Biel in the 18th minute but Chicago equalized just 93 seconds later. Winger Jonathan Bamba's ball found the head of two-time MLS All-Star Philip Zinckernagel, who redirected to the feet of Lewandowski. The Polish striker took two touches and converted a strike from just outside the box, notching his first career MLS goal - a historic moment in front of a roaring crowd.

As both sides sought a go-ahead second-half goal, Lewandowski stepped up once again in the 68th minute. After a build-up with more than 25 passes, a cross by left back Andrew Gutman found the feet of Robin Lod, who connected with an underlapping Lewandowski inside the penalty box. Lewandowski, running to his right, chipped a shot past Charlotte goalkeeper Kristijan Kahlina that found the side netting to secure his first MLS brace and first game-winning goal with the Men in Red.

NEXT MATCH: Chicago Fire FC next turns to Leagues Cup 2026, starting off the group phase against Liga MX side Necaxa at 7:30 p.m. CT on Thursday, Aug. 6, at SeatGeek Stadium. The match will be broadcast globally on Apple TV.

Robert Lewandowski marked his home debut with his first two goals in Major League Soccer. The Polish forward is the fourth player in Fire history to score multiple goals in his home debut, joining Frank Klopas in 1998, Andy Herron in 2008 and Tomasz Frankowski in 2008.

Philip Zinckernagel returned from the MLS All-Star Game in Charlotte to record his eighth assist and 13th goal contribution of the season. The Danish winger was a late addition to the MLS All-Star roster, but first Fire player to score in the game since Cuahtémoc Blanco in 2008.

In Robin Lod's first start alongside Lewandowski, the two forwards combined for the game-winning goal in the second half. Lod's third assist of the season was also his third in his career against Charlotte FC, leading all current players in the category.

Homegrown goalkeeper Chris Brady made the 50th regular season start of his career at Soldier Field. Brady returned to Chicago following his call-up to the U.S. Men's National Team for FIFA World Cup 2026 to record the 38th win of his career and Club-leading second against Charlotte.

Andrew Gutman had a game-winning goal contribution for the second consecutive match. The left back tallied the game-winning goal in the 2-1 victory against Toronto FC on May 23, before setting up Lod's assist of Lewandowski's second goal in the 2-1 win tonight.

Defender Christopher Cupps (International Duty) and winger Chris Mueller (Not Due to Injury) were unavailable for selection on Saturday night. Defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi (Lower Body) and midfielder André Franco (Lower Body) remain on the league Injured List and are projected to return in the second half of the season.
