Rob Mager named Schutt Offensive Player of the Year

Published on August 22, 2006 under arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - Louisville Fire OS ROB MAGER has been named the Schutt Offensive Player of the Year, as selected by a vote of af2 head coaches and beat writers.

Mager, in his second season out of Indianapolis, tied an af2 record for touchdowns receptions in a season with 54 in 2006. Mager's mark ties him with current Houston Texan and last season's Rookie of the Year Donovan Morgan, who caught 54 touchdowns in 2005. Mager also led the league in points scored (324), total touchdowns (54), receiving yards (1,918) and receptions (143). His 324 points is the second highest single season total in league history, only behind Morgan. Mager's 1,918 single season receiving yards ranks third best all-time while his 143 receptions is tied for the fifth best total in league history.

Much like the Damian Harrell of the AFL's Colorado Crush, one thing the local fans could count on was Mager finding the end zone as he caught a touchdown pass in all 16 of Louisville's games. He recorded five touchdown catches three times during the season and caught six twice. Consistency like this brought Mager the Schutt Offensive Player of the Game honors seven times during the season. He earned Schutt Offensive Player of the Week honors in Week 8 against Albany. Against the Conquest, Mager caught 14 passes for 207 yards and five touchdowns. In Week 4 against Birmingham, Mager recorded 208 receiving yards, the second highest total of the season.

Mager becomes the second Fire player to be honored this season with a year-end award. Last week Brett Dietz took home the Spalding Rookie of the Year Award.

This Saturday, August 26, the American Conference Champion Green Bay Blizzard battle the National Conference Champion Spokane Shock for the 2006 ArenaCup at the Coliseo de Puerto Rico in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Tickets are available by logging on to www.ticketpop.com or by calling (866) 994-0001.
