SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Central Valley Coyotes wide receiver/defensive back LAMONTE JONES has earned the Cutters Gloves Ironman of the Year Award, as voted on by af2 head coaches and beat writers.

Jones, in his third af2 season, was the Coyotes' leading receiver, catching 107 passes (ninth in the league) for 1,419 yards (ninth in the league) and 40 touchdowns during the regular season. He caught a touchdown pass in all 15 games he suited up in and recorded a rushing touchdown in Week 2 at Bossier-Shreveport.

The 5-10, 185-pound Jones was the Coyotes' main kickoff returner, taking in 45 kicks for 829 yards and two touchdowns. Jones accumulated 258 total points in 2006, third highest in the league. He was a major player for Central Valley on the defensive side as well, ranking third on the squad with 36.5 (32UA, 9A) total tackles. Jones also intercepted three passes, broke up nine additional passes and forced one fumble.

Jones was named Offensive Player of the Game once and Ironman of the Game three times this season. His best performance came in Week 8 against Spokane when Jones was named Ironman of the Week. He had eight catches for 119 yards against the Shock, both game-highs, and one touchdown. He also amassed 86 kick return yards, including a 50-yard return for a touchdown. Jones added three total tackles and a team-high three pass breakups on the defensive side of the ball.

His two-way prowess shouldn't be surprising as he played both ways at Fresno City College before transferring to Illinois State for his final two years. The former Redbird helped the Central Valley Coyotes to a 12-4 record this sason, their best in franchise history. Jones has played for Central Valley since the team's first season in Fresno in 2004, catching 226 career passes.

Jones joins Xavier Patterson (Quad City - 2000), Kevin Harvey (Richmond - 2001 & 2002), Bobby Sippio (Greensboro - 2003), Tim Dodge (Quad City - 2004) and Marquis Floyd (Rio Grande Valley - 2005) as af2 Ironman of the Year winners.

Jones is the first Coyotes player in franchise history to be honored with a league award.
