Roadrunners Win Fourth in a Row

EDINBURG, Texas - The Edinburg Roadrunners won their fourth straight game after defeating the McAllen Thunder 10-2 Tuesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium in front of 4,737 in attendance.

Miguel Martinez (6-2) allowed two runs, one earned, in eight and two-third innings pitched while striking out seven and walking just two for his sixth win of the season.

The Roadrunners (25-14) got Martinez all the runs he needed in the bottom of the second. Pascual Del Real hit an RBI sacrifice fly that allowed Derek Perren to score from third. After a walk to Tim Battle that loaded the bases, Stantrel Smith hit a three-run triple that made it 4-0 Edinburg.

McAllen (12-25) got a run in the top of the third on an RBI single by Mike Demperio that cut the lead 4-1.

After Edinburg go a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by Perren, they added four more in the bottom of the fourth. Wilmer Pino and Carlos Hereaud each recorded two-run singles that pushed the Roadrunners lead 9-1.

A fielding error allowed another run to score for Edinburg that pushed the lead to 10-1 in the bottom of the sixth.

The score remained the same until the top of the ninth when Nathan Tomaszewski hit an RBI single that scored Nick Mahin. Tetsuya Iwasaki recorded the final out of the game giving the Roadrunners the 10-2 victory.

The Roadrunners and Thunder will continue their series Wednesday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Matison Smith (4-2) is expected to pitch for Edinburg with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
