Roadrunners Split Series With Thunder With 10-4 Win

ROBSTOWN, TEXAS ---- Wilmer Pino went 3-for-6 with a home run and three RBIs to help lead the Edinburg Roadrunners past the Coastal Bend Thunder 10-4 Wednesday night at Fairgrounds Field. The win gives Edinburg a split of the four-game series with the Thunder.

Miguel Martinez (7-4) picked up his seventh win of the season after he allowed two runs while scattering seven hits and striking out eight in eight innings pitched.

Pino got the scoring started for the Roadrunners in the top of the first with a lead-off home run, his second of the season. Edinburg added three more runs in the inning against Toro Trevino (5-5) making the score 4-0 after a half inning.

The Roadrunners (38-30) extended their lead in the top of the third on an RBI single by Eric Gonzalez that allowed Bryon Smith to score making it a 5-0 game.

In the top of the sixth, Hunter Owen hit a two-run double that drove in Sergio Guerrero and Carlos Hereaud extending the Roadrunner lead to7-0.

Coastal Bend (30-37) got their first runs of the game in the bottom of the sixth on Bryan Vickers' two-run home run, his third of the series, cutting Edinburg's lead to 7-2.

The Roadrunners scored three insurance runs in the top of the ninth inning and Bryan Heaston pitched the ninth allowing the Thunder to score two runs making the final score 10-4.

Edinburg will start a four-game series against the Laredo Broncos starting Thursday night at Edinburg Baseball Stadium. Danny Rondon (4-1) is expected to face Will Palmer (2-1) with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
